Channel 5 acquires hit US drama The Walking Dead

Channel 5 has acquired the free to air rights to the smash hit American zombie drama, The Walking Dead, it was announced today (Weds).
The critically acclaimed 6 x 60 minute drama series, from distributor Entertainment One, stars Brit actor Andrew Lincoln as a sheriff’s deputy, Rick Grimes, who wakes from a coma after having been shot to find himself in a dangerous new world that has been overrun by zombies. With his wife and son missing, Rick embarks on a perilous journey to find them.
The Walking Dead will have its terrestrial debut in the UK on Channel 5 primetime in Spring 2011. Its 90 minute premiere in the US on the AMC Network in October 2010 drew an audience of 5.3 million, the highest ratings for any series in AMC history, also home to the hit drama series Mad Men and Breaking Bad. The series has been renewed for a second season of 13 episodes.
The series was developed for television by the Oscar nominated director of The Shawshank Redemption, Frank Darabont. Darabont also serves as Executive Producer.
