5* launched as Five Life in October 2006, becoming FIVER on 28th April 2008 and 5* on 7th March 2011.

 

The channel is attracting increasing numbers of younger viewers with a range of younger, faster, ruder programming.  It has a rich mix of the best acquired and originated programming and already  has seen a number of high-profile, new programmes including Archer, Burn Notice, Melrose Place, Californication, Sex and the City and The City.

2010 Statistics

 

  • 5* shows a mix of soaps, movies, entertainment, drama and documentaries with a greater focus on 16-34 year olds (35% of the audience).
  • 5* is the place to find ‘first look’ Home & Away. Every weekday evening at 6.30pm, viewers can tune in to the latest episode. Home & Away is one of the most popular shows on a non-terrestrial channel and attracts an average 650,000 viewers / 3.0% share of viewing on Fiver (wks 2-10 2010).
  • The channel grew its share by +12% in 2009 (vs 2008). Blockbuster movies such as The Davinci Code, Spider-Man 3 and Monsters Inc. as well as big name shows like FlashForward and Knightrider (2009) helped to bring more viewers to the channel.
  • 5* continues to reach more people in 2010. The channel achieved its highest ever reach at the start of the year with 18.7 million (a third of the country) tuning in across January 2010.
