Ben Fogle's Animal Clinic
Channel 5 today announced that Animal Clinic will be returning for a second series, to be fronted by presenter and adventurer Ben Fogle. The show will continue its unique insight into the work of the University of Liverpool’s Vet School, one of the world’s leading veterinary institutions.
Animal lover Ben Fogle will follow the lives of the highly skilled professionals and students at the University’s three state-of-the-art animal hospitals on the Leahurst Campus, and the busy First Opinion Clinic which has just opened new facilities in Liverpool city centre. Ben’s love of animals was first inspired by the work of his father, Bruce Fogle O.B.E., the celebrated author and veterinary surgeon with over forty years’ experience in the field.
With exclusive access, the series follows the University of Liverpool vets as they deal with medical emergencies, everyday injuries and mystery ailments, involving everything from domestic pets and farm animals to thoroughbred racehorses, as well as exotic animals at nearby Chester Zoo.
In this series of Ben Fogle’s Animal Clinic we see one of the vets at the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, Cardiologist Hannah Stephenson, treat Norah, a much loved Bearded Collie with a tumour-like mass on her heart ; we follow the specialist farm vets who act as emergency midwives for ewes during the lambing season; in the Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital, veterinary surgeon Neil Townsend treats a horse with a potentially fatal case of the gut complaint colic ; and at nearby Chester Zoo, where the vets’ specialist skills are put to use treating some of the world’s most exotic species, Orthopaedic surgeon Rob Pettitt is called to an emergency case involving a highly endangered species of antelope.
Commissioning Editor, Ian Dunkley said: “We are delighted to have Ben on board. His background and love of animals make him the natural choice to present the second series.”
